S. 1227—The Health Information Technology Act

On June 13, Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) introduced S. 1227, the Health Information Technology Act, to establish a 5-year, $4 billion competitive grant program for hospitals, physicians, skilled nursing facilities, community health centers and community mental health centers to offset investments in new technologies and information services. The bill would also allow accelerated depreciation of qualified health care information system expenditures. S. 1227 was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP).
