#402BCIG - Biomedical Computing Interest Group

Description:
Description: The NIH Biomedical Computing Interest Group (BCIG) is a learning and doing community interested in identifying, learning, developing, and working with current and evolving computational and statistical methodologies relevant to, and appropriate for all aspects of biomedical research and patient care. BCIG sponsors monthly Thursday gatherings that include brainstorming sessions, tutorials, featured presentations, book club meetings, and multidisciplinary research team working sessions. All meetings are on Thursdays, and everyone interested in biomedical computing is invited to attend.

"If it's Thursday it must be BCIG!"

See the BCIG website for details on specific meeting times and locations. Meetings and other information are also regularly announced via the BCIG Listserv.

Objectives:
The primary purpose of BCIG is to further novel uses of computers and automation in support of clinical care and biomedical research. The group will seek to go beyond the use of computers to enhance or facilitate traditional tasks. We will promote computational methods as a research tool.

Particular areas of interest include data visualization, data mining, machine learning, neural networks, receiver operating characteristic methodology, genetic algorithms, novel data models, novel automation systems, component software development, modern statistical methodology, data base registries, hospital and community health care information systems, and biomedical computing technology transfer.
Who should attend:
Anyone interested in discussing and promoting computing methodologies and technology in biomedical research, development, and patient care.

Instructor(s):
Jim DeLeo, Department of Clinical Research Informatics, Clinical Center
