Application Information for Institutional Partnerships

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR FALL 2009 ADMISSION to the GRADUATE PARTNERSHIPS PROGRAM

The GPP application deadline for Fall 2009 admission is: DECEMBER 15, 2008 (Midnight EST), with one exception:

  • NCI-Molecular Pathology – Deadline: October 18, 2008.  Applications submitted after October 18, 2008 will be considered based on admission space availability.

Some university applications have an earlier application deadline; check university webpage for details.

Students wishing to enroll in an NIH-University partnership (Institutional Partnerships) must complete the GPP application, except those wishing to enroll in the NIH-University of Pennsylvania partnership that should only apply directly to the university.  In addition, all partnerships, with the exception of Johns Hopkins, Karolinska, Oxford and Cambridge, require simultaneous submission of the UNIVERSITY application to the university.  University applications for Johns Hopkins, Karolinska, Oxford and Cambridge will be submitted only if admission to the GPP is granted.

The GPP application has two components:
1) Part-A – Complete this Form First.
This portion of the GPP application collects your contact information, education history, standardized examination scores, references, and partnership selection.  Some partnerships require additional information for selection criteria; review the partnership descriptions for guidance.

Partnership Selection
The GPP has many NIH-University Institutional Partnerships.  A complete list and description of each partnership is available by navigating through the Prospective Students section of the GPP website.  If you have any questions or concerns about identifying which partnership(s) best match your education and career goals contact the GPP or any of the partnership directors for assistance.  A few notes about the partnership selection:

  • The University of Oxford and University of Cambridge partnerships are listed under one selection and count as one toward the partnership limit.
  • The DVM/PhD: NCI-Molecular Pathology partnership requires applicants to have a DVM degree or equivalent or be enrolled in a DVM program.
  • The Combined MD & PhD Training - MSTP partnership does not count against the partnership limit.  Note: students must be currently enrolled in medical school or concurrently submitting applications to MSTP-funded MD/PhD programs to apply for this partnership.
  • The University of Pennsylvania partnership requires ONLY the university application to be submitted; GPP application is not required for admission consideration.  Applicants invited to interview for this partnership will interview at the University of Pennsylvania.  Matriculated candidates will visit the NIH in Spring 2009.  Email the GPP (gpp@nih.gov) with your intention to submit the University of Pennsylvania application.

2) Part-B – Access Requires Password Generated from Part-A.
This portion of the GPP application collect your scientific discipline / research interests, research experience, publications, presentations, awards/honors, extracurricular activities, personal statement, and any additional information you wish to provide.  In addition, you will also need to upload PDF files of your transcripts and standardized examination scores within this section.

There is no application fee for the GPP application.  University partners may have an application fee.

Contact GPP at gpp@nih.gov if you have any questions or concerns.
