Dear NIH postbacs and graduate students:

In July, the NIH Director sent an e-mail to every NIH employee encouraging us to work together to enhance the work culture of the NIH. Dr. Zerhouni noted that the “NIH is known for producing great science and great scientists, but we also want to enhance the family-friendly atmosphere and recognize the cultural diversity and the variety of perspectives that are part of our research environment.”  If you are interested in promoting diversity at the NIH, dialoging with other trainees about diversity in science, and want to strategize about ways to make NIH (and the broader science community) inclusive and welcoming of people from ALL backgrounds, join us for the first meeting of the NIH postbac/grad student diversity discussion group. We are not sure what directions our meetings will take, how often we will meet, or what we will discuss. In fact, we invite you to help us decide what our group should be!

We will meet next THURSDAY DECEMBER 11, 2008 at noon, in B1E12/14 in Building 31 (see below for detailed directions).We will provide pizza - so please RSVP!
