Event Details:

The 2007 Demystifying Medicine Series will begin January 9th and includes the presentation of patients, pathology, diagnosis and therapy in the context of major disease problems and current research.  Primarily directed toward Ph.D. students, clinicians and program managers, the course is designed to help bridge the gap between advances in biology and their application to major human diseases.  Each session includes clinical and basic science components presented by NIH staff and invitees.

The first lecture, held on January 9, 2006, is entitled "HIV:  New Clinical and Basic Problems Arise From Success", given by John Coffin (NCI), Lori Wiener(NCI) and Lauren Wood (NCI).

Those seeking academic credit may register with FAES. Those not seeking academic credit should register through the course e-mail list. To subscribe to this email list, send an e-mail message to this address: Listserv@List.nih.gov.  Substituting your name for Jan Doe's, the body of your message should say: Subscribe DeMystifyingMed Jan Doe.  Alternatively, you may sign up for Demystifying Medicine through the ListServ website (http://list.nih.gov/archives/demystifyingmed.html), and enter your name and email address.


COURSE INFORMATION:
Each presentation is held from 4:00-6:00pm every Tuesday from January 9th through May 8th in the ground floor auditorium of Building 50 on the NIH campus.  Recommended reading, PowerPoint notes and other information will be distributed through the Demystifying Medicine website (http://www1.od.nih.gov/oir/DemystifyingMed/) and email list.
 
Registrants who attend more than 60% of sessions and pass a computerized  final exam will receive a certificate.

Classes will be available through Breeze.
