  1. Consultation to clarify issues and options
The goal of the EAP consultation process is to help you alleviate workplace problems. The process defines the workplace problem(s) and develops a plan for correction. Other specialists from Human Resources, Office of the Ombudsman, CIVIL, EEO or the Occupational Medical Service may be included in the planning process.

  2. Supervisory Referral

Referral for intervention by EAP may be of assistance in situations where a supervisor becomes concerned about changes in an employee's work performance or conduct due to personal problems. The EAP Consultants can advise you whether EAP intervention would be appropriate. Additional guidance can be provided regarding effective ways for approaching and referring an employee to the EAP. EAP Consultants will work with the employee to identify issues and develop a plan including the utilization of appropriate resources in the community, if needed. Throughout the process, the EAP Consultants will maintain contact with you about work performance issues at the same time maintaining employee confidentiality.

For any questions about the referral process, call one of the EAP Consultants at (301) 496-3164. A copy of the sample memorandum which could be used to make a referral to EAP is available on another page.

  3. Training for supervisors
Supervisory training is available to meet your specific needs. Training is designed to help you identify, assist and manage employees whose work performance or conduct is negatively affected by personal problems. photo of a man standing next to a flip chart

Other specialists from personnel, EEO or the Occupational Medical Service may be included in the planning and implementation process.
