COLLECTIONS (NOT-CA-00-025)

Release Date: October 23, 2000

NOTICE: CA-01-002

National Cancer Institute

This addendum is to inform potential applicants of following
changes/clarifications to NOT-CA-00-025 entitled “Supplements to Expand
Access to Large Specimen Collections” released August 30, 2000.

1. The due date for applications is extended to Monday November 6, 2000.

2. An “institution” is any NCI grant recipient with specimens and data
collected as part of its funded research. This includes SPOREs, Clinical
Cooperative Groups, Centers etc.

3. In most cases qualification for these supplements requires specimens from
at least 2000 accrued cases (individual patients) appropriate for use in
research. Specimens and data do not all have to be located at one institution
or collected as part of single study. In rare cases special (unique)
collections with fewer cases may qualify.

4. Foreign sites may participate as subcontractors to a domestic institution
funded as part of the same project.

5. The applicant institution must propose to supplement an active grant that
has at least two years of time remaining. The supplement budget period
requested should be the time remaining on the grant that is to be
supplemented.

6. Applicants should make their supplement request in the form of a letter,
but the budget should be requested on the standard PHS 398 budget forms.
Direct costs may be requested up to the budget cap. Facilities and
administrative costs to collaborating institutions (included in direct costs)
will not be counted against this limit.

All other instructions of NOT-CA-00-025 remain unchanged. The complete Notice
can be found at
