The Outcomes Research Branch periodically sponsors workshops on topics related to outcomes research and methods development.

• Health Outcomes Methodology Symposium - This meeting addressed advances in the measurement of patient health outcomes such as health-related quality of life.
• International Conference on Objective Measurement: Focus on Health Care - This conference was devoted to expanding item response theory measurement to health care applications.
• Seattle Symposium on Cancer Outcomes Research - This symposium highlighted several emerging areas in cancer outcomes research.
• Improving the Health of Populations through Cost-Effectiveness Analysis - This meeting was designed to enhance the usefulness and expand the application of cost-effectiveness analysis by health care decisionmakers.
• Applying Item Response Theory (IRT) to Enhance Health Outcomes Assessment - This international conference examined the added-value of using modern measurement methodologies to improve the measurement of patient-reported outcomes (PROs).
• Patient Reported Outcomes Assessment in Cancer Trials: Evaluating and Enhancing the Payoff to Decision Making - This conference examined the application of HRQOL in trials.
