Paul Han
Paul Han, MD, MA, MPH, is a Medical Officer in the Outcomes Research Branch of the
Applied Research Program. He is a general internist and palliative medicine physician,
and recently completed training in the Ethics of Prevention and Public Health track of the
NCI Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program. He obtained an AB in Religious Studies from
Cornell University in 1985, an MD from the New York University School of Medicine in 1989,
an MA in Medical Ethics in 1999, and an MPH from the University of Pittsburgh in 2004. He
completed Internal Medicine residency training at UCLA in 1992, and was a
clinician-educator at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine before coming to the
NCI.
Dr. Han's main research interests are in informed decision-making and palliative and
end-of-life care. His recent work has focused on understanding how patients and
physicians deal with uncertainty in decision-making, and the outcomes of communicating
ambiguous information about health risks and medical interventions. He is actively
involved in branch initiatives examining patient-centered communication and the quality of
care across the cancer continuum.
