Steven Clauser
Steven Clauser, PhD, is Chief of the Outcomes Research Branch of the Applied Research
Program, where he directs the National Cancer Institute's research program in outcomes
research and quality of care. His research interests are in the development and
implementation of performance measurement of cancer care delivery, patient-centered
communication, health-related quality of life and patient experience of cancer patients
and survivors, and the evaluation of cancer care delivery programs. Prior to his
appointment as branch chief in 2005, Dr. Clauser served as a senior scientist in NCI for
three years. Dr. Clauser has worked for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, where he
served in several capacities, including Director of the Quality Measurement and Health
Assessment Group, and Director of the Office of Research. He has also worked for the
Department of Defense, American Medical Association, and McGraw-Hill in a variety of
health policy research positions. Dr. Clauser serves on several national advisory
committees related to performance measurement within the Department and the private
sector. He received his BA from Michigan State University and his PhD from the
University of Minnesota.
