Maria Hagstromer
Maria Hagstromer, PT, MPH, PhD is a visiting scholar from the Karolinska Institutet,
Stockholm, Sweden. At the Karolinska Institutet she is a lecturer in Physiotherapy and
Health Promotion. She has a Post-doc at the Centre for Family Medicine, Karolinska
Institutet, where she currently is conducting research on physical activity among
immigrants and also on physical activity and the built environment. Her PhD thesis
centered on assessment of health-enhancing physical activity at the population level, with
a special focus on objective measures such as accelerometers. She has also been involved
in the development of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ).
As a visiting scholar with the Applied Research Program, Maria will continue the work
to analyze the Swedish population-based accelerometer data with respect to seasonal
variation, and together with Dr. David Berrigan she will compare the Swedish and US
NHANES accelerometer data.
