Sisters Together Program Guide Now Available

The Weight-control Information Network (WIN) has produced a guide to enable health educators to replicate the Boston-based Sisters Together: Move More, Eat Better program in their own communities.

Sisters Together was a 3-year pilot program designed to encourage African American women between the ages of 18 and 35 to become more physically active and improve their eating habits. WIN developed the program in response to research findings from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III), which indicate that African American women have the highest prevalence of overweight among all racial and ethnic groups.

Based on the Boston program, the Program Guide offers step-by-step instructions on how to design and implement Sisters Together activities and events. The Guide will assist health educators in starting a program, building partnerships, working with the media, selecting and implementing activities, and measuring the program's success. The Guide also includes reproducible sample materials such as press releases, public service announcements, and flyers, allowing planners to use or adapt the materials to their individual program needs.

Contact WIN to order the Sisters Together: Move More, Eat Better Program Guide.
