NIH is the world's premier medical research organization, supporting some 30,000 research projects nationwide in diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's, diabetes, arthritis, heart ailments, and AIDS. In addition to its separate research institutes, NIH includes the National Library of Medicine, the Clinical Center (a combined research hospital and laboratory complex), the National Center for Research Resources, and the John E. Fogarty International Center for Advanced Study in the Health Sciences.
