Research Funding
NIDA supports research on the biomedical and behavioral causes, consequences, prevention, and treatment of drug abuse and addiction. Investigators propose research projects by applying for Direct Foreign Grants or Domestic Grants With a Foreign Component and by responding to Program Announcements.
NIDA and other NIH Institutes and Centers may choose from more than 185 types of funding mechanisms. Some training, planning, and conference grants or cooperative agreements are restricted to international activities, but the most common grant award types (R01 Research Project Grants, R03 Small Grants, and R21 Exploratory/Developmental Research Grants) are open to researchers from any country:
- NIDA Grants
- International Program Announcements
- U.S. - Netherlands Administrative Supplements
- International Research Priorities by NIDA Divisions and Programs - June 2008 (2.6MB)
- For Former Fellows
- Fogarty Center
- Other NIH Funding
NOTE:
ALL NIDA and National Institutes of Health grant applications must be submitted electronically. Visit the NIH Electronic Research Administration Web page for details.
