Donations to National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine

The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), National Institutes of Health, is a component of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). DHHS is a Federal agency of the United States Government and is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as tax-exempt under 26 U.S.C. 501 (c) (3).

Although NCCAM is a federally funded organization and not a fund-raising organization, it has been authorized by the U.S. Congress to accept donations and bequests to support the mission of the Center. All contributions to NCCAM are tax-deductible pursuant to 26 U.S.C. 170.

Donations to NCCAM are handled in the Center's "Gift Fund" account, which is separate from the appropriation received from Congress. Basic operating expenses and administrative costs are paid out of the Center's appropriation, therefore, all donations to NCCAM are used to promote or expand research in the area of complementary and alternative medicine.

In response to inquiries regarding how to make a donation to the NCCAM Gift Fund, a contribution can be made by sending a check or money order payable to the "National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine" addressed to:

A letter needs to accompany the check indicating the purpose for the donation. If a contribution is to be made in honor of another person, please indicate the name of the honoree as well as a name and address of the individual to whom an acknowledgement can be sent. All donors are acknowledged in writing.
