S. 1906—The Meth Mouth Prevention and Community Recovery Act

On July 31, 2007, Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) introduced S. 1906, the Meth Mouth Prevention and Community Recovery Act, to increase understanding and comprehensively address the oral health problems associated with methamphetamine use. The bill would require the Secretary of HHS to expand and intensify clinical research, health services research, and public health research on associations between substance use disorders, oral health, and the provision of dental care in collaboration with Federal and non-Federal entities. In addition, the bill would authorize funds to carry out this section as well as one that would require SAMHSA to support training of dental personnel to be aware of such findings. S. 1906 was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and (HELP) Pensions.
