The Executive Secretariat (ES) assigns documents
to NIH components for action or information. These documents are most
often incoming correspondence addressed to the NIH Director or Deputy
Director. It may also include documents sent from the office of a
member of Congress, addressed to a Director or Deputy, Associate,
Assistant, Scientific, or Clinical Director of an Institute or Center
(IC) or OD Staff office, or an IC Executive Officer. The incoming
document usually requires action by or a response from the NIH. The
electronic copy your office receives contains information about the
document and the required action on an ES control sheet that is attached
as the last page of the document. ES routes the document and ES assignment
sheet to the appropriate IC or OD Staff office correspondence contact
via the System for Enterprise Records and Correspondence Handling System
(SERCH).
The correspondence contact routes the package within his or her organization
and uses SERCH to return the response document to ES. |
