Cancer Care Outcomes Research & Surveillance Consortium
The NCI, in collaboration with the Department of Veterans
Affairs (VA), is supporting a research consortium of eight grantees to measure the
quality of cancer care in the United States. This project, entitled "Cancer Care Outcomes
Research and Surveillance Consortium" (CanCORS), supports prospective cohort studies on
approximately 10,000 patients with newly diagnosed lung or colorectal cancers recruited in
geographically diverse populations and health care systems.
The project addresses how characteristics of patients, providers, and care delivery
systems affect the cancer management and treatment services that patients receive, as well
as the relationship between cancer-related clinical practices and outcomes. Seven of the
sites are supported by NCI grants funded through a cooperative agreement with ARP. The VA
funds the eighth site.
