Due to the importance of managing the NIH Ethics Program, which includes the IC Ethics Programs, in a consistent and effective manner, the NIH ethics community established Ethics Program Working Groups (WGs) in the summer of 2004. WGs operate as subcommittees to the DEC/EC community. To join or obtain information about a specific WG, contact the Facilitator listed below.
- The purpose of the WGs is to help the ethics community identify priority policy and operational issues, and to resolve them in coordination with the NIH Ethics Office, NIH DEC, and NIH Ethics Counsel, as appropriate.
- WG members will review policy and procedural documents in their respective areas and provide feedback to NEO, and suggest and/or draft templates and other tools for use by the ethics community and employees.
- WG memberss will help identify "Best Practices" for dissemination to the ethics community.
- The size of a WG ranges from approximately 6 to 9 members, who are self-nominated or suggested by others.
- Each WG has a Facilitator from the NIH Ethics Office who serves as the main contact point and reports back to the DECs/ECs. The Facilitator also works with the group's members to schedule meetings, identify priority issues to be addressed, and to circulate drafts as appropriate.
- Additional duties of a specific WG are available in the table below (link from WG name).
Current Working Groups and the membership of each are as follows. Questions may be addressed to the Facilitator. Contact information is on the Ethics Coordinator list. Click on the name of a Working Group (in blue) to see additional information about the specific working group.
