Cognition Section
Alan B. Zonderman, Ph.D., Chief
Senior Investigator
Overview: The Cognition Section studies the psychological mechanisms that distinguish pathological from healthy, age-related cognitive changes in a broad range of cognitive tasks including short-term and long-term memory, visuo-spatial rotation, attention and decision tasks, and problem solving. Studies focus on structural and functional brain changes using neuroimaging, and their relationship to changes in cognitive performance and the development of dementia. Studies also examine the psychological mechanisms underlying age-related changes in memory, learning, and reasoning, problem solving, information processing, and the roles of psychological and physiological characteristics in age differences and age changes in cognitive performance.
