Lipsett Amphitheater, National Institutes of Health
Sponsored by the Women Scientist Advisors (WSA) and the Office of Research on Women’s Health (ORWH)

To facilitate success for all employees, Dr. Zerhouni, NIH Director, has called upon the leadership of the NIH to develop a variety of programs to improve many aspects of the NIH working environment. This forum focused on the initiatives of the NIH Working Group on Women in Biomedical Careers.  Many of the initiatives benefit all NIH employees and address mentoring, childcare and family care issues, workplace flexibilities, and recruitment of dual career couples, through new programs.  Some initiatives focus on developing the evidence-base on the effectiveness of programs to advance the careers of women in science and engineering and on promoting improved understanding of the factors that might explain the current patterns of careers of men and women in these fields.

Presenters include Dr. Raynard Kington, Deputy Director of the NIH; Dr. Vivian Pinn, Director of the Office of Research on Women's Health; and Dr. Joan Schwartz, Assistant Director of the Office of Intramural Research.
