Jun Shen, Ph.D., Investigator

Dr. Shen received his B. S. in 1985 from Nankai University. In 1995 he received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, where he worked with Laura Lerner studying high-resolution NMR spectroscopy and conformational analysis of carbohydrates. He did postdoctoral training on in vivo magnetic resonance spectroscopy with Robert Shulman and Douglas Rothman at the Yale University School of Medicine. In 1996 Dr. Shen became a staff member in the Internal Medicine Department and the Magnetic Resonance Center at Yale. In 1998 he joined the faculty in the Radiology Department at New York University Medical School and the Medical Physics Division at the Nathan Kline Institute. Dr. Shen joined the NIMH as an Investigator in 2002.

Research Interests:
Dr. Shen research at the NIMH focuses on non-invasive in vivo nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy technology development and applications. Dr. Shen's group is interested in applying advanced proton and heteronuclear magnetic resonance techniques to studying neurometabolism and neurotransmission of glutamate and GABA in normal brain function and in neuropsychiatric disorders.
