NCMHD Deputy Director and Director of the Division of Scientific Strategic Planning and Policy Analysis receive 2008 NIH Director’s Award.

Joyce Hunter, Ph.D., Deputy Director NCMHD

Two of NCMHD’s senior staff received a NIH Director’s Award this year. Joyce A. Hunter, Ph.D., Deputy Director, NCMHD received her award for leadership in helping to re-engineer the Division of Extramural Activities Support (DEAS). DEAS provides centralized support activities for grants management, program and peer review activities. DEAS has been called part of the essential glue that holds NIH’s Extramural Program together.

Ileana Collado Herrell, Ph.D., Director Division of Scientific Strategic Planning and Policy Analysis

Ileana Collado Herrell, Ph.D. Director, Division of Scientific Strategic Planning and Policy Analysis, received her award for being part of the leadership team that conceptualized and produced the first of the new NIH Biennial Reports, mandated by the NIH Reform Act of 2006.

The NIH Director’s Award recognizes employees who exhibit superior performance or special efforts significantly beyond their regular duty requirements, but directly related to fulfilling the NIH mission. They were awarded in three categories: Scientific/Medical, Administrative, and Technical/Clerical/Support.

In congratulating the recipients Elias A. Zerhouni, M.D., Director, NIH said, “While it’s a pleasure to honor some of our colleagues who have contributed in particularly noteworthy ways in the last year, I recognize that at the NIH our employees consistently exhibit a level of professionalism, dedication, and perseverance that is unmatched.”
