Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi

Rep. Pelosi to Participate in Families First Environment Hearing

September 17, 1996

WHO: Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-California) to participate in Families First Environment Hearing.

Other Members participating include: Reps. George Miller (D-CA), Frank Pallone (D-NJ), Mike Ward (D-KY), Sens. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), Harry Reid (D-NV), and Ron Wyden (D-OR). Rep. Elizabeth Furse (D-OR) will chair. Members will hear testimony from citizens concerned with clean water, clean air and toxic waste clean up.

Witnesses:

WHAT: The Families First Environment Hearing will examine the choice between the anti-environment record of the Republican Congress and the pro-environment principles of the Families First Agenda. The hearing will contrast the continuing threat to America's vital environmental protection laws by the Republican Congress with the Democrats' commitment to stand firm for protecting our natural resources and public health.

WHEN: 11:00 am to 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, September 18

WHERE: 340 Cannon House Office Building

"Clean air and clean water concern all of us. Scientists confirm that you cannot separate personal health from the health of our environment -- pollution prevention equals disease prevention.

This hearing points out the critical intersection we have reached and the choice we have between what is extreme and what is necessary to protect human health and the environment. The drastic cuts of the Republican majority in Congress would reduce our nation's investment in public health."
