WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Marion Berry (AR-01) commended his colleagues in the House of Representatives for joining him to pass H.R. 3222 the Fiscal Year 2008 Defense Appropriations bill. The bill includes $459.6 billion for the defense budget and was approved by a vote of 395-13 early Sunday morning. The funding will be used to equip the National Guard and Reserve, a 3.5 percent increase in salaries for service members, and increase spending for defense health care and military housing.
"The new 110th Congress is committed to supporting our troops and their families in every way we possibly can," said Berry. "This bill will give our troops the equipment they need for combat, preserve our ability to deter terrorist threats, and give soldiers a pay raise. I'm proud to have worked to secure this and other unprecedented support for our servicemen and women. The sacrifice they make for our country is enormous and we cannot do enough to repay them for their service."
In addition to the projects listed below, Congressman Berry helped secure $22 million for operations and equipment for the Arkansas National Guard.
