Berry Accepting Academy Applications for Class of 2011

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  U.S. Representative Marion Berry  (D-AR, 1st) announced today that his office is now accepting applications from qualified men and women for admission to the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

“Admission to our nation’s service academies is reserved for those students most prepared for the rigorous academic and physical challenges that await them. Every year I have the distinct honor of nominating Arkansas’ finest students for the privilege of attending one of the academies and I look forward to reviewing the applications over the next several months,” Berry said.

To be eligible for admission with the class of 2011, a candidate must be a citizen of the United States, a high school graduate, unmarried with no dependents, at least 17 years of age but not older than 23 on July 1, 2007 and nominated by a member of Congress from their home congressional district.

The admission process for the service academies is very competitive and highly selective. Emphasis is placed on leadership skills and community involvement in addition to grade-point average, class rank, standardized test scores and physical fitness.

Applications are currently being accepted for the class of 2011, which will begin at each of the academies in the summer of 2007. Those interested in being nominated should send written notification of their interest to Representative Berry’s Cabot Office at 116 N. First Street, Suite C-1, Cabot, Arkansas  72023. Applicants should also open a pre-candidate file with the academy to which they are applying by contacting the academy’s admission office.

Representative Berry will send an application package to all eligible students who send written notification of their interest in the military academies. Applicants must complete and return the package to Representative Berry’s office by November 15 to be considered for admissions with the class of 2011.
