WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Marion Berry (D-AR, 1st) Senators Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln, along with Congressman Marion Berry (AR-01) announced today that the 1st Congressional District of Arkansas will receive over $366,000 in funds from the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. Today's announcement is the fifth round of Fiscal Year 2005 fire grants.
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program awards one-year grants to help fire departments improve firefighting operations, strengthen firefighter health and safety programs, and establish or expand fire prevention programs throughout the country. These funds are part of the $650 million Congress approved for 2005 to support fire departments nationwide. The Department of Homeland Security’s Office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness administers the program, in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.
The awards for the 1st District of Arkansas include:
· $74,338 Zion Volunteer Fire Department for fire operations and safety
· $64,087 Wirth Volunteer Fire Department for fire operations and safety
· $227,924 Oxley Volunteer Fire Department for fire operations and safety |
