Berry Joins Lawmakers to Honor Fallen Troops

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  U.S. Representative Marion Berry  (D-AR, 1st) will join several of his colleagues this evening on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to honor the men and women who have lost their lives in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. During the tribute, lawmakers will read the names of those who have given their lives to spread democracy throughout that region.

“These brave men and women made the ultimate sacrifice so that others may enjoy peace and freedom,” said Congressman Berry. “Their commitment to this country will serve as a timeless reminder of what draws us together as Americans. They were ordinary and extraordinary all at once, and I am honored to participate in a tribute that will ensure this country never forgets their sacrifice.”

Congressman Berry also has a memorial outside his Washington, DC office with the names and photos of every Arkansan who lost his life in Iraq and Afghanistan. To date, Arkansas has lost thirty-one men from both the National Guard and active duty forces. The memorial stands as a reminder of Arkansas’ sacrifice in the current war effort.

“We have more than 3,300 Arkansans serving with distinction in Iraq and Afghanistan,” said Congressman Berry. “While we pray for the save return of these men and women, we must keep the legacy alive of those who died fighting for their country. I hope every person who passes through the halls of Washington stops to reflect on the bravery and sacrifice of Arkansas’ finest.”
