WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor, along with U.S. Reps. Marion Berry, John Boozman and Mike Ross announced today that fire departments in Arkansas have been awarded $437,349 in grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
This program provides support to fire departments by providing the tools and resources necessary to ensure both the safety of department personnel and the general public.
Most of the grants come under the Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety Program. These grants are used for training, wellness and fitness, firefighting equipment, personal protective equipment, and modifications to fire stations and facilities. The following departments have been awarded grants for fire operations and firefighter safety:
· Highfill Volunteer Fire Department; Gentry, AR - $27,783
· Dermott Fire Department; Dermott, AR - $14,646
· Southwest Communities Fire Department; Malvern, AR - $63,720
· White Bluff-Rye Hill Volunteer Fire Department; Fort Smith, AR - $37,800
In addition, the following departments have been awarded FEMA funds to purchase a new firefighting vehicle:
· Wiener Volunteer Fire Department; Weiner, AR - $140,400
· Ward Volunteer Fire Department; Ward, AR - $153,000
These awards are part of the 31st round of grant announcements.
