WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Marion Berry (D-AR, 1st) will hold his annual Congressional Arts Competition Friday, May 5, 2006 in the Jonesboro District Office beginning at 4:00pm. Judges will review art from area high-school students and select winners for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The Congressman will hold a reception once the judges have made their selections to honor all the students who submitted work in the competition.
“I always enjoy this competition because it gives me a chance to showcase all of the fine talent from the 1st District of Arkansas,” said Congressman Berry. “Nothing makes me prouder than to pass by the art of these gifted students when I walk to the U.S. Capitol for a vote or when I visit with my constituents in my Washington or Jonesboro offices.”
First place winners from across the country will have their art displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year where Members of Congress and visitors can enjoy the pieces. Southwest airlines will provide a complimentary plane ticket for the winner from Arkansas’ 1st congressional district so the individual can attend the hanging ceremony in Washington, DC. Second and third place winners will have their work on display for a year in Congressman Berry’s Washington, DC office and his Jonesboro, AR office.
Members of the press are encouraged to attend the reception at 4:00pm in Congressman Berry’s Jonesboro office where students will be honored for their achievement. The office is located at 108 E. Huntington Avenue. |
