Continued by Dun & Bradstreet Reference
Book of American Business. The Library's holdings begin
with the 1864-65 edition. Publication was suspended 1861-63. Volume
numbering is irregular through v. 38, Sept. 1877. Volumes for 1859-
Nov. 1936 were issued by the Mercantile Agency. On some, the title
on the spine is Mercantile Agency Reference Book (1864-65); 1865;
1866; January 1888; January and July 1925; September 1926; July
1930; September 1931). Otherwise, the title is Dun & Co. Reference
Book until September 1925, after which it reads R.G. Dun & Co.
Reference Book. Beginning with June 1966, it was issued in 4 parts,
except between July 1985 - March 1990 when it was issued in five
sections.
Pre-1966 editions are shelved in the Folio area, and most
are extremely large and brittle. Several of the earlier
editions have broken bindings and are tied together with
string. Dates on the spine are faded and difficult to read.
Beginning in September 1960, the cover title changes to ...
Reference Book of Dun & Bradstreet, with the month of
issue at the front of the title. From 1932 onward, the
Library's holdings reliably reflect a bimonthly publication
pattern.
