New Deal Arts Collections To Be Celebrated at the Library of Congress on December 9

The unparalleled New Deal arts collections of the Library of Congress--manuscripts, music, prints, photographs, posters, recordings, folklife and theater materials, and first-person interviews--will be featured on December 9, 1994, at "Amassing American Stuff," a program sponsored by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.

The program will consist of panel discussions, individual presentations, and displays from the Library's New Deal arts collections. It will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Mumford Room on the sixth floor of the Library's James Madison Memorial Building, 101 Independence Ave., S.E., and is open to the public without charge.

Participants will include many of the "survivors" of the arts projects of the 1930s, such as Will Barnet, Jack Delano, Archie Green, Stetson Kennedy, Dan Lacy, Alan Lomax, Jerre Mangione, E.G. Marshall, Charles Peterson, Leonard Rapport, Sam Ross, and Anthony Velonis; Library of Congress specialists from the American Folklife Center and the Manuscript, Prints and Photographs, Music, Rare Book and Special Collections, and Motion Picture, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound Division; scholars of the New Deal era; and representatives from other government agencies.
