November 4, 1994Contact: Reynaldo Aguirre (202)707-2015Library of Congress Hispanic Division Hosts Reading by Poet, Novelist, Essayist Ana CastilloMexican American author and poet Ana Castillo will read from her new book of essays in a program sponsored by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress. The reading will be at 4 p.m. Friday, December 2, in the West Dining Room on the sixth floor of the James Madison Building, 101 Independence Avenue S.E. Ms. Castillo will read passages from Massacre of the Dreamers: Essays on Xicanisma, published in September by the University of New Mexico Press, as well as some of her poems, to be published in a collection by W. W. Norton & Co. Inc. in 1995. Ms. Castillo, a native of Chicago, teaches at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and is a visiting professor at Mount Holyoke College. A leading figure in Chicano writing, she has published several books of fiction and poetry. She received the 1993 Carl Sandburg Award for Fiction from the Friends of the Chicago Public Library and awards from the Before Columbus Foundation and the Mountains and Plains Booksellers Association. # # # PR 94-171 |
