Outdoor Summer Concerts Scheduled

The American Folklife Center will open its 1994 Neptune Plaza Concert Series on Thursday, April 21, at noon with 10 Tibetan monks performing sacred music and dance. The monks are from the Drepung- Loseling Monastery, formerly in Tibet and now in India. All concerts will take place on the Neptune Plaza, west front steps of the Thomas Jefferson Building, First & Independence Ave. SE, from noon to 1 p.m. The rain location is the Mumford Room on the sixth floor of the James Madision Building across the street. All the concerts are taped live and will be broadcast by WAMU-FM 88.5 at a later date.

June 2 Six Nations Longhouse Women Singers, a Iroquois women's singing group from Ontario, Canada

June 16 The Legendary Orioles, an African-American doo-wop group from Baltimore

July 21 Horvus Miller and the House of Prayer Trombone Band, an African-American sacred music group

August 18 Dave McLaughlin and Josh Crowe, bluegrass

Sept. 15 Concert in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month (group to be announced)
