Anuario Hispano/Hispanic Yearbook Celebrates Publication of its 8th Edition

Librarian of Congress James H. Billington and Representative Esteban Torres (D-Calif.) will host a reception to celebrate the eighth edition of Anuario Hispano/Hispanic Yearbook on February 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Members' Room, first floor of the Thomas Jefferson Building, Library of Congress.

The Anuario Hispano/Hispanic Yearbook, edited by Angela Zavala and Juan Ovidio Zavala (Y.I.Y.M. Pub. Co. of McLean, Va.), is distributed free of charge in the United States and in other countries of the Americas. Compiled by the editors using Library of Congress resources, the Yearbook is updated annually, with the 1994 edition listing more than 3,000 Hispanic organizations and 1,800 scholarships and financial aid opportunities for Hispanics in the United States. The publication provides information on education, business and career opportunities, and addresses for federal, state, and local job information centers, and minority business development centers. The eighth edition also contains listings of federal publications of interest to Spanish speakers.

The Yearbook documents the enormous importance of the North American Free Trade Agreement and the need for people in the United States to understand the countries of Latin America. During the reception, representatives from the American Telephone and Telegraph Company will present to Dr. Billington the second AT&T-sponsored Hispanic Division Fellowship which will be awarded to a student working in the Hispanic Division during the summer of 1994.
