Media Advisory: Former Director of Hungarian Television and Professor of Poltical Science Elemer Hankiss To Speak at Library of Congress

WHO: Elemer Hankiss, former director of Hungarian Television and currently the E.L. Wiegand Distinguished Professor of Democratization at Georgetown University.

Dr. Hankiss is professor of political science at the University of Budapest and the director of the research center ANALYSIS in Budapest. He served as director of Hungarian Television from August 1990 to January 1993. Dr. Hankiss has taught at the University of Budapest, Concordia University, Montreal, and at Stanford University. He has also lectured and taught seminars at Harvard University, Yale University, and other universities in the United States and abroad. He served as research fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington DC in 1987-88 and as visiting fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna from March to July 1993. He has published several books and collections of essays on sociology.

Dr. Hankiss's lecture is part of a series of presentations by a variety of experts on issues of political, social and economic importance to Europe and the United States. The series is sponsored by the Library of Congress's European Division. These lectures are free and open to the public.
