National Book Award Lecture by Paul Monette Published by the Library of Congress

The Politics of Silence, a lecture by 1992 National Book Award winner Paul Monette, has been published by the Library. Sponsored by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress and the National Book Foundation, which administers the National Book Award, the lecture was presented at the Library of Congress on Jan. 28, 1993, during National Book Week. Commemorated the third week of each January, National Book Week is a weeklong celebration of American books and writers that features writers talking about their craft.

Paul Monette won the 1992 National Book Award for nonfiction for his work Becoming a Man: Half a Life Story. He also has written six novels, three collections of poems, and Borrowed Time: An AIDS Memoir.

The Politics of Silence is the fourth publication in the series of National Book Week Lectures sponsored by the Center for the Book and the National Book Foundation. A 21-page pamphlet, it was designed by Franklin Street Communications Inc., of Richmond, Va.
