The artist, Dominique C. Fabronius, emigrated to the United States in the 1850s. He worked in Philadelphia and Cincinnati before moving in 1861 to Boston where he worked with lithographer Franklin N. Carter. Fabronius moved to New York in 1865 and continued working there into the 1870s.
