The city of Flint received nearly $7 million in federal assistance designed to stimulate the economy, promote affordable housing and help the homeless.
The three grants awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development are a $5.3-million community development block grant, $1.4-million home investment partnership grant and a $202,000 emergency shelter grant.
"This funding will enable us to build a safe community and create job opportunities by providing affordable housing to low-income families in the city of Flint," said U.S. Rep. Dale E. Kildee, D-Flint, who announced the grants.
