The National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities honored U.S. Rep. Dale E. Kildee, D-Flint, with its annual advocacy award earlier this week.
The award, established in 1993, recognizes persons outside academics who champion the cause of independent nonprofit higher education.
"Millions of students would not be going to college today without Congressman Kildee's work on student aid, particularly Pell Grants," said NAICU President David L. Warren.
