On Monday, March 15, 2004, in the Library
of Congress's Mumford Room, Nicole
Hollander, creator of the lively comic
strip Sylvia, humorously addressed the
challenges of staying creative, based
on her own artistic career and life. With
wry humor and wit, she charmed an audience
of Library staff, cartoonists, and devoted
followers of her work as she unveiled
strategies for coping with creative crisis,
showing slides of her elegantly drawn
comic, her work place, and neighborhood.
The Prints and Photographs Division mounted
a small display of original drawings by
Hollander that were selected from her
recent gift of twenty-two drawings to
the Library.
