One of only five known copies of this rare American
children's book, published in Baltimore around 1825, the Calendar
describes the duties and pay of various government officials including
the president, vice president, cabinet members, and Congress.
In verse that celebrates learning, virtue, and patriotic spirit,
the "rising generation" is offered hope that "you, if you're good,
may be President yet." The text and twelve hand-colored engravings
are the work of a Baltimore lawyer who, in his youth, wrote and
drew for the publisher Fielding Lucas in exchange for law books.
