This heavily revised page is from the first of five typescript
and holograph revisions for the ending of Patrimony,
Philip Roth's 1991 non-fiction work about his father's last years
and death. Roth, one of the most important American novelists of
the last half of the century, was awarded the National Book Critics
Circle Award for this book. Roth donated all the drafts of his early
works, including Goodbye Columbus, to the Library in
1969. The Library now holds his complete collection of manuscripts
and correspondence.
