Bhuwan Dhungana, one of the leading female short story writers
in Nepali, known for her blend of emotionality and intellectualism was
born on August 2, 1947 in Biratnagar in eastern Nepal. Though born to
a family of a strong political background, she has never in anyway felt
the need to fit into the role of a politician's daughter or a wife. She
has been writing poems, short stories over past three decades. Dhungana
received her primary education in Banaras, and completed her high schools
in Biratnagar, Nepal. She graduated from Ratna Rajya Campus in Kathmandu
and has Diploma in Law. Bhuwan Dhungana was selected for the scholarship
through the Colombo Plan to attend Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan,
West Bengal, India. She studied Manipuri dance for three years and in
1971 received a Diploma in dancing and Bengali literature. She completed
her postgraduate studies in 1973 from Tribhuvan University. |
