The Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973 and the National Flood Insurance Reform Act of 1994 help protect from financial losses caused by flooding. Backed by the U.S. government, Federal flood insurance is available in the more than 20,000 communities throughout America that participate in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
