Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr., today said, "I'm running for re-election to Congress, but I am flattered, encouraged and humbled by the Tribune poll. For the last ten years I have been working on a broad vision to bring 15,000 jobs and economic development to all the people of this city and state. That's why I've been so committed to building the Abraham Lincoln National Airport near University Park - a big efficient economic engine at no cost to taxpayers. I'm confident that Governor Blagojevich will transfer land to the Abraham Lincoln National Airport Commission as soon as possible so that pre-development can begin."

Sunday's Chicago Tribune indicates that if the mayoral election were held today it would be a very close race in a head-to-head battle between current Mayor Richard M. Daley and Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. The poll shows Jackson with 40%, Daley with 37% and 23% are undecided among all voters. Among white voters, Daley has 54%, Jackson 19%, with 28% undecided. Blacks prefer Jackson with 70% of the vote, Daley with 16%, and 14% are undecided. Hispanics would vote for Jackson with 39%, Daley with 35%, and 25% are undecided.
