Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Melissa Bean (IL-08) released the following statement today after cosponsoring H.Res. 34, which recognizes Israel’s right to defend itself against attacks from Gaza, reaffirms the United States strong support for Israel, and supports the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. The resolution passed today 390 to 5.
“While a cease-fire agreement could halt the immediate pain and suffering of civilian families on both sides of this conflict, the challenge for the international community is to hold Hamas accountable to honoring it, as they have not on past agreements. A lasting peace can only happen when Israel no longer needs to defend itself from unprovoked attacks.”
