Washington, D.C. - Today U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen announced that the City of Everett has been awarded $75,000 through the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Office for a local community prosecution program.
“These resources will be used for the City of Everett to work with law enforcement and community leaders to improve safety on our streets. I am pleased to assist the City of Everett with these efforts to make our neighborhoods safer for all residents,” he added.
Specifically, the funds for the City of Everett are to be used to organize a community prosecution advisory council that will select neighborhood target areas, identify issues of concern to the community, and form partnerships to better address quality of life crimes in those areas.
Larsen continued, “With these tough economic times, the city has limited resources. I hope this grant will help the city continue its mission of keeping our community safe.”
Last fiscal year, Congress allocated $25 million to continue funding the community prosecution program initiative. The Bureau of Justice Assistance administers the program. Planning grants, such as this, will support jurisdictions’ efforts to develop a comprehensive planning process for their community prosecution program. Awards cannot exceed $75,000. The award is for a 12-month period. |
