(a) When the Sec. 172.101 table specifies that a hazardous material be packaged under this section, the following requirements apply. Except as otherwise provided in this part, the description ``Paint'' is the proper shipping name for paint, lacquer, enamel, stain, shellac, varnish, liquid aluminum, liquid bronze, liquid gold, liquid wood filler, and liquid lacquer base. The description ``Paint-related material'' is the proper shipping name for a paint thinning, drying, reducing or removing compound. However, if a more specific description is listed in the Sec. 172.101 table of this subchapter, that description must be used. [[Page 508]] (b) Paint, paint-related material, adhesives, ink and resins must be packaged as follows: (1) As prescribed in Sec. 173.202 of this part if it is a Packing Group II material or Sec. 173.203 of this part if it is a Packing Group III material; or (2) In inner glass packagings of not over 1 L (0.3 gallon) capacity each or inner metal packagings of not over 5 L (1 gallon) each, packed in a strong outer packaging. Packages must conform to the packaging requirements of subpart B of this part but need not conform to the requirements of part 178 of this subchapter.
