The coffered interior dome over the Main Reading Room in the Library's Jefferson Building is shown on a stamp commemorating the Library's 200-year history. A mint-condition stamp, first issued in April 2000, is encased in plastic with Jefferson's famous quotation about books and reading. More than 6,000 volumes from Jefferson's own library were purchased by the government to replace and enlarge Congress's library which was destroyed in 1814 when the British burned the U.S. Capitol Building. Small, gold-plated book charm at the end of a tasseled string makes this an especially memorable marker for anyone who loves to read. Size: 6" x 2 1/4" Price: $6.00 Availability: Usually ships in 3-4 business days. Product #: 21502142 |
